Abstract
Human trafficking is a current problem that health professionals, such as pharmacists, should be aware of. This poster was created as a group project by pre-pharmacy majors and exhibited to faculty and graduate pharmacy students. The primary purpose of the project was to learn about human trafficking as a public health concern, increase awareness, and search for ways to reduce the problem. Find the latest business news on Wall Street, jobs and the economy, the housing market, personal finance and money investments and much more on ABC News.
Human trafficking is a global form of victimization which transcends all geographical boundaries. It is also a form of objectification that strikes at core values of human dignity, protection for the vulnerable, and accountability for the exploiter. As such, it is a form of victimization that demands both a global solution and grass roots actors.
Religions throughout the world stand in a uniquely advantageous position to aid in the fight against trafficking. As global institutions, their reach is broad. As grass roots organizations, their influence runs deep. As moral voices of the community their impact can be profound.
This piece examines the role organized religion can play in the anti-human trafficking movement. Following the framework of the four component parts of the movement: partnership, protection, prosecutions, and prevention, this article discusses the space religions can occupy within that framework. Additionally, the piece also overlays onto that framework the direction proposed by Pope Francis, which further advances the significant contribution religion can make to the fight against trafficking. Therefore, the piece acts as a platform from which to explore how to capture the strength of religions and utilize them to prevent and respond to human trafficking.

Abstract
Human trafficking and smuggling are the paradigm of contemporary criminal activity. While these crimes occur throughout many states in the U.S., Florida and the Tampa Bay area specifically are heavily targeted by both foreign and domestic persons. This region is subject to a substantial influx of humans who are transported across borders and within the state. This is caused by the large service industry, coastlines and airports, agriculture and other ports that allow for transportation. These humans may be woman, children and men. Most people who are trafficked are used for two main purposes, slave labor and sex. This paper presents research on human trafficking with the Tampa Bay region and surrounding areas. This review includes laws and policies that have been created within the state in order to prevent and protect citizens of our nation and others from being kidnapped and/or sold as slaves; laws that will cause new enhancements from affected agencies and organizations. Understanding the definition of the word 'victim' with human trafficking and human smuggling in mind and who is punished in our legal system for both of these crimes, may be two different things. This review of policies and procedures in the U.S. and the state of Florida will also show who is the criminal and the victim within these cases.
